Accident between Modena, Reggio and Parma

The stretch of the A1 and the parallel Via Emilia between Modena and Parma is flat, fast and, for several months a year, foggy. It is also motorcycle country, which gives the region two entirely different claim profiles depending on the season.

The A1 and the old road beside it

The motorway carries north-south freight at high density, and the accidents follow the pattern of the Po plain: queue-end collisions, fog, and lane-change damage among lorries.

The Via Emilia running parallel is a different world — a straight road through towns, with junctions every few hundred metres, agricultural vehicles in season and local traffic that treats it as a bypass. Collisions with slow-moving farm machinery are a distinct category here, and the damage they cause is unusual enough that a standard calculation rarely captures it.

Motorcycles in the Motor Valley

This is the region of the Apennine roads that motorcyclists travel from all over Europe to ride. The typical case is a single-vehicle fall on a bend or an overtaking collision on a mountain road, often far from a town.

After a fall the priorities are unchanged: photograph the final positions, keep the helmet and gear, and do not have the machine straightened or "checked over" before it has been measured. Frame geometry cannot be assessed once a frame has been pulled.

Recovery of a motorcycle needs a wheel chock and correct strapping. A bike loaded on a car transporter bed with straps over the bodywork arrives with damage nobody can later separate from the crash.

The agricultural vehicle carries compulsory motor liability cover like any other, and the claim runs against its insurer. Identify the machine properly — photograph the plate, the make and any company markings, because farm vehicles are often less obviously identified than cars.

Can you collect the motorcycle as well as assess it?
