The northern Adriatic beaches are where hundreds of thousands of Central European families spend August — with their cars, their campers and their caravans parked in the open for two weeks at a time. That is a specific risk profile, and it is not mainly about collisions.

The weather is the main event

Summer storms on this coast arrive fast and hit hard: hail large enough to write off a roof and bonnet in minutes, wind that tears awnings off campers, and falling branches on campsite pitches. A single storm cell can damage several hundred vehicles at one site.

That produces a practical problem. After a mass hail event every workshop and every assessor in the region is booked, and the queue is measured in weeks. Documenting your own vehicle immediately — before it is moved, cleaned or driven home — is what keeps your claim independent of that queue.

Hail is assessed by counting and mapping dents panel by panel. Photograph in low-angle light, ideally early morning or late afternoon, and include the roof: it takes the worst of a hailstorm and is the surface nobody photographs.

Traffic on the coastal roads

With no third party, it is a comprehensive claim under your policy terms. The important part is documenting the wall attachment area properly — that is where the expensive consequence lies, because a damaged mounting rail is a water ingress path into a sandwich wall.

Can I drive home with the damage and have it assessed there?

Often yes, if the vehicle is roadworthy and watertight. Photograph it here first. If the roof skin is broken or a rooflight is damaged, cover it properly before you set off — rain on the drive home turns one claim into two.
