Accident around Bergamo and Brescia

Between Bergamo and Brescia the A4 stops being a holiday route and becomes a working one: freight, commuters, and a low-cost airport whose hire cars scatter across the region every morning.

Freight traffic and what it does to a claim

Heavy goods vehicles dominate this stretch, and a collision involving one has a different profile: the damage is usually severe at the rear or the flank, the other party is a company rather than an individual, and the insurer may be in a third country.

Identify the vehicle properly. Photograph the tractor and the trailer plates separately, the company markings and, if visible, the transport documentation. Tractor and trailer are frequently owned and insured separately, and a claim aimed at the wrong one loses weeks.

Where a load has shifted or spilled, photograph that too. It is evidence of the sequence of events and sometimes of the cause.

Hire cars from Orio al Serio

A large share of the damaged vehicles we see in this area are hire cars collected at Bergamo airport. That changes who decides what: the hire company owns the vehicle and will present an invoice weeks after you have flown home.

Photograph the car when you collect it and when you return it, insist on a written damage protocol at handover, and do not authorise any repair. If an invoice arrives later that does not match the damage you know about, an independent assessment of what the damage actually was gives you something concrete to work with.

Assessment in eastern Lombardy

The region is dense with workshops, transport operators and salvage buyers, so inspections are easy to arrange and a residual-value figure can be tested against a real local market rather than a distant bid.

If the vehicle is not drivable, tell us where it was recovered to. Yards here work with foreign owners routinely, and access is usually a matter of a written authorisation by email.

Frequently asked questions

The lorry driver admitted fault at the scene but his company denies it now.
That is why the CID and the photographs matter. A signed CID records the facts as both drivers described them at the time, and the damage geometry either supports the description or contradicts it. Both are documented at the scene, not afterwards.
I returned the hire car and only later got an invoice for damage.
Ask for the calculation and the photographs the hire company relies on, and have the damage independently assessed against them. Whether the contract permits the charge is a legal question — for that we recommend a lawyer specialising in traffic law.
Can the vehicle be assessed at the airport car park?
Usually yes, with the operator's agreement. Give us the parking level and space number and the name of whoever holds the keys.
